Of babies and fandom.

My sister had her baby. So far he's sufficiently normal-looking and not-scary, but if she bows to the pervasive use of one's infant as a default facebook icon, I won't know what to do.

I don't get the whole fandom bracket March Madness thing. Someone explain it? Fandom itself always confused me, I guess. [Although the most recent issue of Avengers: Children's Crusade caused me to squee and use the word 'shipping' when my two faves finally kissed. Go figure.]

It seems I've relegated most of my 'deep thoughts' to my main blog [concretesoul.wordpress.com] while this LJ gets used for stuff I can't really say anywhere else now that I'm associated with a major magazine and comic book company.

Alas, I cannot explain March Madness. :( Congrats to your sister on her baby!

I'm popping in b/c I went over to your blog. Very nice! While I, being in much the same situation as you, can't donate money, I want to see you finish your rockstar novel, as the world needs more of these. To that end, if you need a beta, I'm happy to offer myself for that.

Wow. Thank you so much! The rockstar novel is actually finished-- I just can't complete it because I wanted to release it with a music CD...

That sounds super cool! Have you decided what medium you're going for to publish? Traditional, e-publisher, self-publishing, new wavey internet thingy?

Edit: Oops, put this in the wrong spot.

Fandom March Madness was made in response to the real march madness college basketball brackets that are everywhere this month. Which a lot of people in fandom don't care about, I guess. lol. Basically the person who started it chooses a bunch of fandoms, traditionally tv shows, this year she included some of the big book/movie fandoms also. First round people vote on which major character from each fandom should represent the fandom. Then each character is assigned a (random) spot on a bracket, like real march madness, and go head-to-head with another character. And you basically vote for your favorite, the winner continuing to the next round, the loser being eliminated, until there's one character left standing.

The other part of Fandom March Madness is that in the comments, people rooting for a particular character try to convince others to vote for their character. The whole thing is basically an excuse to make and use gifs, picspams, fandvids, etc. and flail. lol.

I have no idea if this makes sense. lol

I guess it does? lol. I was just never one to use GIFs or do picspams, so maybe that's why the point of the whole thing goes over my head. ;)

I don't really make them myself, but I like seeing what other people come up with. I guess it's also only fun when one actually knows/cares about the characters/fandoms in the game. I know last year the characters I liked got knocked out early on, and I lost interest.

I would also like to comment on my own post to ask WHAT THE FUCK MAKES PEOPLE UPVOTE A BABY PICTURE 60 TIMES AND COMPLETELY IGNORE BLOG POSTS THAT I PUT TIME AND EFFORT INTO?

That baby took 9 months of time and effort! :D

PS I'm mentally composing a PM to you about the publishing thing, in which I will do my best to be helpful (but probably will not be), but first I need to hop around some and wake up b/c The Vile Beast got me out of bed way too early to show her that she already has food in her dish.
